During second quarter, fourth grade students worked on understanding the area and perimeter relationship through a process referred to as "draft and final copy." Students received a choice between 2 different problems and worked independently on the problem. This was the "draft" component of their assignment. They then had a chance to put together a fianl copy that could stand on its own without needing explanation from the writers. They worked in pairs and small groups to complete these final copies.
Their work needed to include complete thoughts, labeled pictures when necessary, and correct mathematical vocabulary.
