Electives started up at Powell this week. All of my electives are off to a great start. In "Let's Make A Million," we have been discussing what we know about the stock market and what it means to own stock. Tomorrow, we will explore stock prices for different companies. In "In Search Of," we have been exploring Wonderopolis.org and coming up with questions and wonders we have. Next week, we will begin talking about how to research and discover the answers. In "Protectors of the Earth-Nature and Ecology," we have been observing our garden and defining what it means to be a protector of the earth. We also got to see fresh eggs in our chicken coup. In "Best of the Best," we have discussed our own reading habits. Next week, we will begin reading Caldecott Award Winners.
I also got the chance to go into the third grade classrooms and work with them on arrays. Students were challenged to determine an arrangement of 48 chairs for an outdoor theater. It was a lot of fun seeing their thinking in action!
With some of the changes this year, I am able to go into classrooms and be a part of the learning. I really enjoyed joining Mrs. Thurmond's class today and discussing different ways we solved a problem. I look forward to going into other fourth grade classrooms soon.
Fifth grade students in Mr. Kram's class visited me to disprove some of the common division myths that they have been told in their lives. I was able to experiment with a new presentation website and they were able to think about math in a different way than what they are used to doing. I can't wait to see what some of the students from Mr. Fetters and Ms. Medlin's class come up with tomorrow!
