As a culminating activity for our study of Dovey Coe, the fifth grade students participated in a mock trial event. In the book, Dovey is accused of murdering Parnell Caraway. The students took on roles as characters and attorneys. With the help of a parental consulting attorney, they were able to learn about preparing for a trial and asking good questions.
Although I am not quite ready to have any of my students represent me in a court of law yet, I do believe some of them have a legal career ahead of them if they want! I was so proud of their efforts and really enjoyed seeing them interact with each other in a fun, yet educational environment!
Thank you to the parents who were able to be a part of our "Fox County Courtroom" and help create a public setting for our trial. We really enjoyed having you visit and look forward to other opportunities for you to be a part of our learning!
