So, summer is without a doubt, awesome! It has always been my favorite season: I'm a summer baby, I love Independence Day, I was on a swim team growing up.
However, at some point in the summer, there is always a time where we think "What are we going to do to keep ourselves [kids/friends/siblings] entertained?"
So, what can you do that you might not have thought of yet? Let me see if I can give some ideas! Then of course, please add your own!
We are lucky enough to live in a Capital City. Which, sometimes we forget, means we have free museums available to us. The NC Museum of Natural Sciences, the NC Museum of History, and the NC Museum of Art are available to us anytime we want!
Staying on the museum theme, Marbles Kids Museum is a lot of fun, but it's not free. Entry is $5 a person, but on a hot summer day, it can be worth it to have your children contained within a fun place!
The Museum of Life and Science is another great one. It's just a short ride to Durham, but it's definitely one where you want to stay all day. Adults are $14 and kids are $10, which is a bit pricey, but I always have a blast!
Did you know that Wake County Public Library has summer reading programs for all ages? That's right mom and dad, you too can be a part of the summer reading program! Lead by example, right? Events differ by location, so check your branch for specific details.
Another program I found out about last summer is KidsBowlFree. The only bowling alley that participates in our area is on Hillsborough Street, but registered kids (follow the link) can bowl 2 games every day all summer long. Shoes are $3, unless of course you have your own bowling shoes, so the name of the program is slightly misleading, but still a great deal!
Regal Entertainment Group does a Summer Movie Express for just $1 a person. The movies are on either Tuesdays or Wednesdays at 10 am. Look up the movie schedule and find information about participating theaters here.
I just learned about the resource Science Buddies. It has a lot of information about science projects. They also just blogged about ways to have a science filled summer. Lots of ideas there for the science-minded. That's right Science Olympiad kids, I'm talking to you!
I know I've left off a million different possibilities, but this is all I have in me right now! The minute I hit publish, I'll think of 5 others, I guarantee it.
